Julie Hamel

Julie is a senior business advisor with over 30 years of experience. She began her career as an entrepreneur before becoming a social economy advisor in 2006. Her range of expertise includes business development, marketing, financing and governance, among others. She received a BA in Economics and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada.

Julie is the Social Innovation expert for District 3 Innovation Hub based in Montreal at Concordia University. Since 2015, she has worked with over 300 startups, guiding them through the critical stages of ideation and validation, to create a sustainable business model. Her unit focuses on human-centered programs for entrepreneurs who are addressing social, environmental and cultural challenges. A few notable examples include Zeffy, a free fundraising software for nonprofits across North America; Whale Seeker, which uses AI to detect and protect marine mammals and promote healthy oceans; and Radical Resthomes, a housing model and movement that rethinks the way we care for our aging population in Canada.

As a lifelong curler, Julie has dedicated her coaching skills to the sport for over a decade. She is the Provincial Head Coach for Curling Quebec.
