Prof David Brown

David is Co-Director of the UTS Ageing Research Collaborative, a transdisciplinary research centre which focuses on enabling socially, economically and environmentally sustainable care and support for older Australians. His research and teaching is primarily focused on how to design and use management and accounting systems to address behavioural, decision making and coordination problems in and between organisations.

David’s research interests span, quality and financial viability of aged care organisations, environmental sustainability, cognitive structures and decision-making, inter-organisational service contracting, open strategy and innovation, sustainable agriculture, and research performance in universities. He has a particular interest in determinants of excellence.

He has undertaken numerous research projects with organisations and industry associations in Australia, focusing on their complex practical challenges. Before pursuing an academic career, David worked in practice which has been particularly useful in undertaking research that is both rigorous and useful for practitioners.
